Too Much Of A Good Thing Means Trouble For Your Colon

Woman eating an appleIt’s hard to say no to our favorite foods, especially when we’re hungry and have been good about watching our diets. But too much of anything, even the healthiest salad, can wreak havoc on your colon.

When you overburden your digestive system, it means that every aspect of it has too much to do. Tired muscles from chewing moves down to a bloated, uncomfortable stomach and, finally, to a colon that has to work overtime to process all that food. That can mean anything from diarrhea to constipation as your system does its work, none of which is very comfortable - or good - for you.

The best way to avoid all of this is to cut back on your portions. Following the Food & Drug Administration’s guidelines for healthy eating and portions is a good way to start. Also, slow down while you eat. You’ll find that chewing your food carefully and taking time to eat more slowly in general helps you feel full faster.
