Cooking For Prevention

Taking measures to prevent the start of colon cancer can be as easy as picking the right foods to include in your diet. In addition to listing a number of cancer-thwarting foods and spices, The Cancer Cure Foundation describes how eating vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage can avert colon and breast cancer. For example, broccoli contains a product of glucoraphanin called sulforaphane. Glucoraphanin is thought to be helpful in preventing colon and colorectal cancer, and sulforaphane encourages the body to produce enzymes that neutralize free radicals and carcinogens.

While the evidence builds that these foods can help keep cancer at bay, many people are put off by the strong taste of cabbage and broccoli or don’t care for vegetables in general. Preparation may make a difference. Here are links to recipes that put a tasty spin on veggies.
