Changing Behaviors Can Help Reduce Risk of Colon Cancer
We hear it all the time: For better colon health, it’s all
about diet and exercise. At the same time, you can change what you eat to help
avoid colon
cancer, but if you don’t change how you eat you aren’t doing all you can to
help prevent colon cancer.
Eating fruits, vegetable and high fiber foods instead of red and processed meats is a huge step in the colon health direction. But, if you are also an overeater, just changing what you eat won’t be as helpful. Even if your plate is filled full with colon healthy foods, eating in abundance can cause digestive chaos and increase your risk for obesity, which in turn increases your risk for colon cancer, according to the British Nutrition Foundation.
To cure overeating permanently:
- Eat slowly
- Don’t eat in front of a computer or TV
- Savor the first couple of bites before diving in to finish your plate
- Use a smaller plate
- Stay away from foods that give you a lot of calories for very little volume
